Travel Medical Insurance - What is the Cost?

Author: Ken Vandiver

What is the cost of a good travel medical insurance policy you might be asking yourself? If you are considering traveling overseas without a good Travel Medical Insurance policy, please don't let the high cost deter you from buying. Why, because the cost is not high, in fact it's really inexpensive. The cost, of course, depends on a number of factors so we will take a look at both the cost and what affects it.

First let me tell you that the cost depends on a number of factors, number of people insured, ages, length of coverage, the deductible and the policy maximum. So, lets start with a good Travel Medical Insurance policy which will give you all of the protection you should need for your trip or vacation. We are going to be using as an example a plan which allows you the flexibility of choosing your deductible and policy maximum. We will take a look at a number of different ages, deductibles, policy maximums  and length of coverages.

Case 1: 2 travelers, ages 36 and 33, traveling for 14 days and selecting a deductible of $0 and a policy maximum of $500,000. The cost of a good travel medical insurance policy would be approximately $53.00. Wow, I bet you thought it would be over a hundred dollars! For $55 why wouldn't you protect yourself and your loved ones? Let's change that to a $250 deductible and you get a premium of $42, even better but you would have to pay the deductible if you became ill or had an accident, your decision. Let's change it to $0 deductible with a policy maximum of $100,000, the cost would be $38.50, not bad especially if you're comfortable with the maximum. Gee, I bet you didn't realize how inexpensive it is to have a good travel medical insurance policy for yourself, your loved ones and your bank account when you go one a trip or vacation did you?

Case 2:  travelers, ages 57 and 52, traveling for 14 days and selecting a deductible of $0 and a policy maximum of $500,000. The premium for this would be $120.75 for the 2 week trip or vacation, still not bad when we realize that the risks for the company go up with the age of the insureds. What would it be with a $250 deductible, $96.60, better when you consider that when you are older you normally have more saved for vacations and such. Now let's look at a lower policy maximum, $100,000 with the same $250 deductible, $86.80. Now that's even better, I bet you don't see any reason not to have a good travel medical insurance policy when you travel do you?

You can see by the figures here that it is not really expensive to have a good Travel Medical Insurance policy when you travel overseas. And when you look at all of the benefits you get it looks even better. So please don't travel overseas without getting a good Travel Medical Insurance policy, because for the cost you will not find a better deal and you will be able to travel with the knowledge that you are doing everything you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones.
