Travel Medical Insurance - Optional Riders

Travel Medical Insurance policies should offer Optional Riders such as: Adventure sports rider for those extreme sports fans among us, enhanced AD&D rider available to the primary insured and a Citizenship return rider to provide temporary medical coverage for non-U.S. Citizens returning to their country of citizenship or for U.S. citizens provides up to 60 days of coverage for brief returns to the U.S. Different travel medical insurance policies may have a selection of different optional riders.

Why are Optional Riders important to you? Well it really depends on your needs. For example if you are an extreme sports enthusiast you would be interested in the Adventure Sports Rider. This rider should be available on a good Travel Medical Insurance policy and covers things like:

Non-Contact Amateur Athletic Activities, BMX, Bungee Jumping, Canyoning, Spelunking, Caving, Cave Tubing, Flying, Hang Gliding, Windsurfing, Heli-Skiing, High Diving, Horseback Riding, Hot Air Ballooning, Jungle Zip Lining, Kayaking, Inline Skating, Motorcycle/Motorscooter Riding, Mountain Biking, Mountaineering (ropes and guides to 4,500 meters from ground level), Rappelling, Rock Climbing (ropes and guides to 4,500 meters from ground level), Skydiving, Paragliding, Parascending, Scuba Diving to 50 meters, Snorkling, Snow Skiing, Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, Surging, Trekking, Jet Skiing, Water Skiing, Wakeboarding, Whitewater Rafting to Class V, Wildlife Safaris. These Adventure Activities must be engaged in soley for leisure, recreation or entertainment purposes. Activities may be organized and include scheduled practices, games, and/or competitions. Activities not covered include: Contact Sports, Professional Sports and any athletic activities that are organized and/or sanctioned by the NCAA (or any other collegiate sanctioning body) or the International Olympic Committee.

The Enhanced Ad&D Rider is available to the primary insured and offers up to an additional $400,000 from the default $25,000 of the policy.

A Citizenship Return Rider is available when purchased at the time of application, it provides temporary medical coverage for non-U.S. Citizens returning to their country of citizenship. For U.S. Citizens, the rider provides for up to 60 days of coverage for brief returns to the U.S. provided you have a current health plan in force and have resided outside the U.S. continuously for the past six months.Coverage for sudden recurrence of a pre-existing conditions is excluded if the rider is selected.
