Travel Medical Insurance - Additional Benefits

Author: Ken Vandiver

The Additional benefits of a good Travel Medical Insurance policy are important so be sure to see what they are. Covered injury or illness will be covered for 6 months from date it occurred. Incidental home country coverage, end of trip home country coverage, common carrier accidental death, sports and activities coverage, accidental death and dismemberment, terrorism coverage, identity theft assistance, natural disaster, trip interruption and lost luggage.

The covered injury or illness above is self explanatory so I won't explain it more here except to say that it is an important benefit when and if there should be a flareup of an illness or injury within 6 months of the occurrence.

Incidental home country coverage if you return to your home country for incidental visits up to a cumulative two weeks total, subject to: a. You must have left your home country, b. The total Period of Coverage must be for a minimum of 30 days, and c. The return to your home country may not be taken to receive treatment for an illness or injury incurred while traveling. Is an important feature that a good travel medical insurance policy should have.

Common Carrier Accidental Death benefit is important if accidental death should occur while traveling on a commercial Common Carrier, $50,000 will be paid to the designated beneficiary, to a maximum of $250,000 per family.

A good travel medical insurance policy will cover injuries incurred during amateur athletic activities which are non-contact and engaged in by the insured person solely for leisure, recreation, entertainment or fitness purposes. However, activities not covered include amateur or professional sports or other athletic activity which is organized and/or sanctioned, or which involves regular or scheduled practices, games or competition.

$50,000 maximum for Terrorism coverage for injuries and illness incurred as a result of an act of Terrorism.

Up to $500 for Identity Theft Assistance but it must be reported within 6 months of the termination of coverage date.

If there is a Natural Disaster and are required to depart his/her destination due to an evacuation order issued by prevailing authorities you are covered for $100 a day up to 5 days.

A good Travel Medical Insurance policy will also have a Trip Interruption benefit which will cover you under these circumstances. If, during a covered trip, there is a death of an immediate family member (spouse, child, parent or sibling) or the substantial destruction of the insured's principal residence, a good travel medical insurance plan will pay to return you to the area of principal residence. The plan will pay for a one way air or ground transportation ticket of the same class as your travel ticket, less the value of your return ticket.

The Lost Luggage benefit will pay up to $50 per item of personal property; maximum of $250 per Period of Coverage if a Common Carrier permanently loses your checked luggage.

As you can see there is a lot more to a good Travel Medical Insurance policy than just travel or medical coverage. They are really more of a complete insurance plan. You can find out how to get your travel insurance on-line at http://www.globaltravelcoverage.com or contact the agent there using their contact form.
